Sealed veg tan leather Klein Tools workman’s portfolio, upcycled into a reporter’s field kit. Klein Tools was established in 1857. This heavy-duty #4271 portfolio has a worker’s name written behind the document slot in Sharpie; it’s used and bears the scars of honest work. I don’t find this particular model on the Klein site anymore and do not know its age. I acquired it as a donation.
The portfolio comes with a brand-new Portage professional reporter’s notebook, on which I’ve trimmed the backing cardboard just slightly to fit it in the existing pad slot. Because the portfolio had holes top and bottom, I stabilized them with eyelets and added FIMO sugar skull charms that I purchased in 2009 from a SmallWildShop (no longer on Etsy). I added a leather tab and floral heart bag clasp to secure it closed. A pen fits nicely in the loop that creates.
