Description

I love Arctic-alpine saxifrages of all types (and there are a lot of them), but I especially love Saxifraga oppositifolia species:  purple saxifrage, or purple mountain saxifrage.  Some species have been known to grow as high as 14,780 feet in the Alps and even in north Greenland.  Its flower petals are edible, and leaves and stems may be brewed into a tea.  The word saxifraga means stone-breaker.
